Swing set plans with a fort

A fort and a swing set, built as two structures: the swings hang from their own A-frame beam, set apart from the fort so neither one shakes the other. Drawn in 3D, checked for the swing zones and priced line by line.

What it needs

What a swing set beside a fort has to clear.

A swing is the part of a play set that moves most, so six things are checked on every plan, for 20 psf of ground snow and a 12 in frost line.

  1. 01Separate frames

    Never hung from the fort

A swing is never hung from a play structure: the swing beam is its own frame, on its own footings. The plans set it 9 ft from the structure, the 9 ft apart that two structures need when a platform is more than 30 in up.

  2. 02Swing zone

    Room in front and behind

The swing zone in front and behind is 2 times the pivot height. The pivot is set 47 to 96 in above the ground, and the designer draws the zone on your lot.

  3. 03Seats and spacing

    Two seats, spaced apart

Two seats to a bay at most, 30 in from the frame and 24 in apart, hung on chains with the seat 16 in above the ground. The A-frame legs have no horizontal crossbars.

  4. 04The slide

A slide that never exits toward the swings

Each plan puts a bought plastic slide, made for a 5 ft deck, on the side away from the swing set. A slide never exits in front of a swing, and the 6 ft in front of its end stays clear of the swing zone, with ground cover 6 ft past the slide on every side.

  5. 05The beam

    A beam your builder confirms

No source we read sizes a swing beam. The plans draw a 6x6 treated beam, which is our choice and not verified: your builder confirms it, or you buy a rated swing beam kit.

  6. 06Safety surfacing

The biggest surfacing area of the plans

A swing set needs surfacing in front of and behind the swings, twice the beam height each way, so the surfacing is a large share of the cost: $3,010 to $3,360 of the total. It is required, and it is in the total.

Each row is the starting plan as drawn, for 20 psf of ground snow and a 12 in frost line. The materials total is rounded shelf prices, before sales tax, delivery, labor and site work, with the required safety surfacing under the play area in it. Home Depot prices read October 2026. Build time is total labor hours, a broad reference. Passed means the preliminary checks passed for those loads; local approval is not checked.

Questions about swing set fort plans

Not on the same frame. Build the fort and keep the swing set as its own structure, 9 ft apart, so neither one shakes the other. These plans draw it that way.

The designer sets the bay from the seats: 30 in from the frame to the nearest swing and 24 in between seats.

Yes. Each plan here has a materials list priced line by line. Home Depot prices read October 2026.

The plans draw a 6x6 treated beam, which is our choice and not verified. We do not say a 4x4 fails: your builder confirms what fits the swing you buy.

Loose fill about 9 in deep across the swing zone, which is larger than a fort alone needs. Each plan prices it on its own line.
