Questions about treehouse plans
Our plans use 2x8 joists (big six-post tree fort, 10 ft span), all at 16 in on center. The designer picks the smallest size whose span passes the table the planner follows (Southern pine: 2x6 to 9 ft, 2x8 to 11 ft 10 in, 2x10 to 14 ft), then shows how much of the limit each joist uses. A wider deck gets a bigger joist or a center beam on six posts.
Pressure-treated lumber where it touches the ground or sits close to it, and for the posts: the planner calls for UC4A treated lumber in ground contact and UC3B above ground. The posts are 6x6 treated pine, the decking and joists are treated lumber, and the walls are 2x4 framing with T1-11 siding. The materials list on each plan names every board.
Yes. Every plan opens in the designer. The deck can be from 6 ft to 12 ft wide and 6 ft to 12 ft long, 2 ft to 12 ft up. The framing, the guard, the checks and the materials list follow every change, and a design that cannot be built is stopped with the reason.
Materials with the safety surfacing run from about $2,423 (low deck for little ones) to about $8,234 (playhouse with a swing set), before sales tax, delivery, labor and site work. Home Depot prices read October 2026. The surfacing under the play area is required, so it is in every total. See the treehouse cost guide.
The open tree fort, an 8x8 deck 5 ft up on 4 posts, comes to about $2,898 in materials, $1,120 of it the safety surfacing under it, and the build is about 36 to 52 labor hours. Adding a roof and half walls on the same deck brings it to about $4,450. Home Depot prices read October 2026.
